Interesting Facts:
He was commissioned by King François I of France to purchase paintings for the French Court. However, Andrea took the money and bought a home in Florence and was never able to return to France.
Del Sarto painted a copy of Raphael’s Pope Leo X for Ottaviano de Medici that was so exact it fooled the critics.
Michelangelo was fond of Del Sarto’s work.
Robert Browning wrote a poem about him: Andrea Del Sarto, called The Faultless Painter.
