The museum director in San Francisco called the US Customs investigation service which sent their senior investigator who quickly involved his Roman contacts. These Brunelleschi masterpieces were the treasures of Italia and they simply must be saved. They had days at most to recover the Brunelleschi lost in San Francisco when the plane landed. Italian treasures were stolen every year and in staggering numbers. Brunelleschi was among the priceless national treasures that simply must not be lost. This art theft adventure is the first in a continuing series featuring a recurring cast of Carabinieri inspectors, museo directors, and the fantastico! sights and sounds of Florence and Rome. Inventive thieves and their despicable clients are determined to steal for themselves the treasures of all Italia. At times they fail only because of the odd intuition possessed by the Florence Carabinieri Direttore and his two senior Ispettore sisters.
"Masterpiece Mix-Up" is the fifteenth adventure in this series. This adventure begins early, before dawn, in a deserted villa on the high bank of the Arno. "So, now I ask for the last time." He held the electrical cord with the dial near to his own face so that man could see what the alternative to answering the question would be. "When does it arrive at the Uffizi?" His voice was now close, there was no distance....
